If that means a trade out of Green Bay, he’s welcome to a change of scenery.
Hawk’s agent Mike McCartney told Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette this after Hawk, a former first-round draft pick, did not play a single snap on defense in Sunday’s victory at Philadelphia.
“A.J. is a pro’s pro and wants to do his part to help the team win, and his first priority is to be the best Packer he can,” McCartney told Demovsky. “But if some team called and wanted him to play on all three downs, I think he’d be excited about that.”
Per Demovsky, Hawk has not lost his starting spot in the 3-4 defense, but the Packers played exclusively in sub packages against the Eagles with three and four wide receivers. In the sub packages, Brandon Chillar replaces Hawk.
What’s interesting is Packers coach Mike Mccarthy said during camp that Hawk was enjoying his best summer as a pro. He is earning $4.623 million this season and is due a base salary of $10 million in 2011, a figure he surely won’t receive at this point. Who knows? Maybe the Packers will find a trade partner before then.
