Shockey Chooses Carolina

Free agent tight end Jeremy Shockey appears to be headed to the Carolina Panthers.

"Looks like I'm signing with Carolina," Shockey announced on his Facebook page. "Time for the Next chapter. This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited to play football. Lets hope we all have the chance to play this season."

Because this is 2011, Shockey Tweeted his Facebook post.

A 2002 first-round pick (14th overall) out of the University of Miami by the New York Giants, Shockey has 510 receptions for 5,688 yards and 33 touchdowns during his nine-year career.

Shockey has been named to four Pro Bowl teams, and won Super Bowl rings with the Giants (2007) and New Orleans (2009), where he's spent the last three seasons.

Due $4.78 million in total compensation in 2011, the Saints released Shockey on February 22.

In 2011, Panthers tight ends Dante Rosario and Jeff King caught 51 passes for 385 yards and two touchdowns. Both players received restricted free agent tenders on Wednesday.
