Eagles were yelling “Papa John’s!” at Peyton Manning

When the folks at Papa John’s decided to spend a ton of money on the NFL, they likely didn’t realize that the endorsement actually would make its way onto the field.
But that’s what happened on Sunday in Denver, according to Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin.  He told WIP radio in Philly that he heard someone shout the name of the pizza company that presumably pays Peyton a pile of money during the game with the Broncos.
“Well I know — I think I might have heard Papa John’s once, but I don’t know who said it, I mean that’s kind of funny,” Barwin said.
Barwin explained it’s common for defensive players to yell in response to the yelling from the quarterback regarding the identity of the “mike” (i.e., the middle linebacker) and other things quarterbacks say.
Far funnier than the yelling of “Papa’s Johns” was the final score, a 52-20 drubbing that had Eagles coach Chip Kelly finally relating to the coaches of all those college teams Oregon blew out.

Munchak says Locker’s hip didn’t appear to be dislocated

There’s no official diagnosis on Titans quarterback Jake Locker’s right hip yet, but coach Mike Munchak said after Tennessee’s 38-13 win on Sunday that Locker’s hip did not appear to be dislocated.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that the Titans coach said that the initial look at the injury didn’t show that the hip had popped out.
Munchak said Locker went to the hospital for evaluation, specifinot any kind of emergency surgery after being carted off the field in the third quarter. The Titans have further clarified that it was for an MRI. Locker was hit by Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson and then banged into defensive end Quinton Coples as he twisted awkwardly to the turf.
“He was upset. It’s emotional,” Munchak said when asked about the quarterback’s condition after the injury.
Updates should come at some point in the next day or two, but it still looks like a good bet that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be trying to lead the Titans to a 4-1 record next weekend.

Ponder is week-to-week with rib injury

Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder won’t play this week with a rib injury.
Moving forward, it’s unclear when he’ll be ready to go.
Per a league source, the injury (which reportedly entails a fracture) leaves Ponder as a week-to-week proposition.  The Vikings are off next week, which means that he’ll have two weeks to heal.
In the interim, the Vikings have an opportunity to see what Matt Cassel can do.  Though it’s not believed that the Vikings would have been ready to bench Ponder at this point, the injury provides them an excellent chance to see what they are missing by not playing Cassel.
They may not be missing much, based on Cassel’s history.  Though he led the Pats to an 11-5 record (no playoffs) in 2008 after Tom Brady popped an ACL, Cassel was average at best in Kansas City.

Terrelle Pryor unlikely to play on Sunday

Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor was cleared to practice in a limited capacity today, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be ready to play on Sunday.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Pryor is unlikely to play for Oakland in Sunday’s game against Washington.
Pryor suffered a concussion late in Monday night’s loss to the Broncos when Denver’s Wesley Woodyard drilled him with a hit that Pryor thought was illegal but the officials (and Raiders coach Dennis Allen) thought was clean.
If Pryor is out, Matt Flynn will get the start for the Raiders. The last time Flynn started a game, it was Week 17 of the 2011 season, when Flynn started for the Packers and completed 31 of 44 passes for 480 yards and six touchdowns. Given the sorry state of Washington’s defense, perhaps Flynn will put up similar numbers on Sunday.
