LB Stephen Cooper Doesn't Expect to be Back With Chargers
Veteran inside linebacker Stephen Cooper will be a free agent this off-season, and doesn't expect to be back with the San Diego Chargers, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Cooper, 31, signed with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Maine in 2003.
After four seasons as a reserve and core member of the Bolts' special teams units, Cooper moved into the starting lineup in 2007. Overall, Cooper has 501 tackles, 9.5 quarterback sacks, 8 interceptions, and 30 passes defensed with eight forced fumbles.
In 56 games over the last four seasons, Cooper totaled 358 tackles, 4.5 quarterback sacks, and 7 interceptions. Cooper led the Chargers in tackles in 2007 and 2009, but finished 2010 on injured reserve due to knee injuries.
"I think I'm going to have an opportunity to test the market," Cooper told Acee on Saturday.
Cooper earned $2.875 million in base salary last season.
