Vikings agree with Greg Jennings

The Vikings have a new No. 1 receiver — and they are taking him from a division rival.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday evening that the Vikings and Packers free agent wideout Greg Jennings have agreed to terms. According to Schefter, it’s a five-year contract.
Jennings was No. 4 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100. The 29-year-old receiver caught 36 passes for 366 yards and four TDs in 2012. He has missed 11 games with injuries in the last two seasons but exceeded 1,100 yards receiving in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Jennings gives Minnesota a go-to target — something the team was lacking after Percy Harvin was dealt earlier this week. Jennings’ arrival figures to be well-received by third-year quarterback Christian Ponder, who’s had an up-and-down start to his NFL career and now has a high-priced backup in Matt Cassel. Last week, Jennings told USA Today that QB play was a decision-making factor in his free-agent process.
The Packers-Vikings rivalry always creates strong feelings, and Jennings’ move to Minnesota adds another element of excitement and intrigue to two already entertaining regular-season games. How he will be received in Lambeau Field next season will be interesting.
Jennings’ agreement with Minnesota leaves Dolphins offensive tackle Jake Long as the top unsigned free agent in PFT’s rankings.

Greg Jennings could be shut down for a week

The Packers lost wide receiver Greg Jennings during Sunday’s win over the Saints and it sounds like they could be missing him a little while longer.
At his Monday press conference, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that Jennings’ groin injury flared up during the game. That left him unable to open up to a full stride while running and, per McCarthy, leaves him back where he was two weeks ago in terms of the injury. McCarthy suggested that shutting Jennings down for a week was an option.
That would force Jennings to miss the Week Five game against the Colts, but that might be in everyone’s best interests if it means that he can be closer to full speed in time for a Sunday night date with the Texans in Week Six.
Jennings already missed one game as a result of his groin injury and has been limited to 12 catches for 78 yards in the three games he has been able to play so far this season. He had one catch for nine yards and a touchdown against the Saints.
McCarthy also updated the status of another injured Jennings. He said there isn’t a high level of concern about the shoulder injury suffered by safety M.D. Jennings.

Greg Jennings may miss Thursday’s game with a groin injury

Greg Jennings‘ contract year isn’t off to a great start.
He caught five passes for only 34 yards in a 30-22 loss to the 49ers, and now Jennings may not be able to play on Thursday night, when the Packers host the Bears.
Via the Associated Press, Jennings injured his groin late in Sunday’s game.  Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Jennings “didn’t feel very good” on Sunday night, but that he felt better on Monday morning.
The Packers, 15-1 last year and 0-1 after the home loss, desperately need to avoid emerging from the first 25 percent of their home schedule with an 0-2 record.
A seventh-year veteran, Jennings has played his entire career with the Packers.  He’s due to become a free agent in March, and he reportedly isn’t interested in talking any further about a new deal during the season.
