Vikings Claim QB Sage Rosenfels Off Waivers

One day after waiving quarterback Donovan McNabb, Minnesota Vikings claimed quarterback Sage Rosenfels off waivers from the Miami Dolphins, Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports.

Rosenfels had been on the Dolphins' "Non-Football Illness" report before he was surprisingly granted his release on Thursday. Rosenfels had been waived earlier from the New York Giants' "Non-Football Illness" list after he was hospitalized with strep throat.

Rosenfels is expected to backup first-round quarterback Christian Ponder, which will free up Joe Webb to play more wide receiver.

A 2001 fourth-round pick out of Iowa State by the Washington Redskins, Rosenfels has completed 62.5 percent of 562 pass attempts for 4,156 yards with 30 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. Rosenfels made his NFL debut with the Dolphins in 2002, spending four seasons in South Florida before moving on the Texans (2006-08) and joining the Vikings in 2009.

Rosenfels was traded to the New York Giants to backup Eli Manning in 2010.
