Texans WR Walter breaks shoulder

Texans WR Kevin Walter will miss 10-12 weeks with a broken shoulder, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported. Walter suffered the injury in Sunday's season-opening win against the Colts.

"I wouldn't say I'm worried about it, because I'm going to treat the heck out of it and be ready to roll as soon as possible," Walter said after the game.

The ninth-year veteran had one catch for 14 yards before leaving the game. Walter started all 16 games last season and had 51 catches for 621 yards and five scores.

Texans RB Derrick Ward also left the game with an ankle injury. He said he will be ready for Week Two against Miami. Ward had 11 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown after getting the start with Arian Foster on the bench with a hamstring injury.

Losing Walter is a blow to Matt Schaub's receiving corps. Despite having one of the best wideouts in the game in Andre Johnson, the Texans don't have much behind him. Jacoby Jones will be counted on to step up, as well as Bryant Johnson in Walter's absence.
