Tarvaris Jackson reminds Vikings they need to start over at quarterback

The Vikings had rookie Joe Webb  at quarterback for part of the fourth quarter Monday night.    They may as well get Webb some practice, because he’s the only Vikings quarterback on the roster that’s likely to be back next year.

Tarvaris Jackson missed a series of Minnesota’s 21-3 loss with a toe injury, and returned to the game to boos.   He was sacked four times and fumbled once.  This game showed why the Vikings were so desperate for Brett Favre to return this year.

Jackson completed 15-of-30 passes for 118 yards and an interception.  He played  tentative and ineffective, just like many in the Vikings organization expected.

Troy Aikman of FOX mentioned that Jackson would have an “uphill battle” just to be back with the team next year.  That was before the game.  Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune has mentioned repeatedly the Vikings “know what they have in Jackson.”

What the Vikings have to do is start from scratch at the quarterback position in 2011.
