Rodgers sustained the concussion in the first half of last Sunday's loss to the Lions. He did not practice all week and was listed as doubtful in Friday's injury report.
Flynn, a third-year pro, completed 15-of-26 passes for 177 yards and an interception when he replaced Rodgers. This will be his first career start.
The Packers also signed rookie QB Graham Harrell from their practice squad. Harrell will be Flynn's backup. To make room for Harrell, they placed S Anthony Smith on injured reserve.
Considering that Rodgers did not practice all week, this is not a huge surprise but still a big blow to the Packers' chances of pulling off an upset victory in Foxborough. Tom Brady hasn't lost a home regular-season game since 2006, and the Pats have been on a roll, winning five in a row and leading the league with an 11-2 record.
The injury bug has bitten the Packers more than most teams this season. To make matters worse for Flynn, Green Bay has struggled to establish a running game with Ryan Grant on injured reserve.
Fantasy spin
Flynn starting diminishes the value of star receiver Greg Jennings, as well as WR Donald Driver. RBs Brandon Jackson and James Starks will get their fair share of carries. The Patriots' defense has forced 13 turnovers over the last five games and is suddenly a solid start in fantasy leagues now that Flynn is starting.
