John Fox knows the end is near in Carolina

Hired in 2002, Panthers coach John Fox is finishing his ninth year with the team.  And he knows that it will be his last.
In a weekly appearance with Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan of Sirius NFL Radio’s Movin’ the Chains, Fox was asked if Sunday’s game at Atlanta will be his last game with the Panthers.
“Well, I think, uh, you know, I think that would be probably, uh, pretty accurate,” Fox said in a transcript provided by Sirius NFL Radio.  “Those things aren’t definitely done yet but I’m sure we’ll do that the right way and just trying to be as above board as possible and we’ll cross that bridge when this season’s over.  And that’s coming up this week.”
Fox’s contract expires after the 2010 season, and it has been widely assumed that he won’t be back for another year.
The next question is whether he’ll be able to parlay a 2-14 or, at best, 3-13 record into another head coaching job in a pro football league that begins with the word “National.”  And that omits the word “Lingerie.
