NFL-Titans’ QB Young loses starting job following outburst

Quarterback Vince Young has lost his starting job with the Tennessee Titans after reacting poorly to being benched, coach Jeff Fisher said on Sunday.
Young, who hurt the thumb on his throwing hand during his team’s 19-16 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins, was subsequently benched and reportedly showed his displeasure by throwing his jersey and shoulder pads into the stands following the game before leaving the team’s locker room prematurely.
“Right now he has (lost the starting job),” Fisher told the team’s website (www.titansonline.com). “There are some things that have to change.
“There are some things we have to work out with him.”
After sustaining a thumb injury that could require surgery, Young warmed up on the sidelines and appeared to want to return to the game but Fisher replaced him with rookie Rusty Smith for most of the second half and overtime.
Fisher said Young spoke with him after the game, but would not comment on the specifics of the conversation.
“I’m disappointed. His team mates are disappointed,” Fisher said. “There’s going to be frustration with losses. I don’t think you run and so I am disappointed.”
