Week One Football ERA Game Results

The 2010 Football ERA Formula underwent some key revisions and some publishing methodology changes for the 2010 season.  The Week One Game by Game Formula Results are finally being made available.  The raw numbers of the Formula operate on a scale of around +2000 points or so on the positive offensive side.  It is important to note, however, that, usually, the defense will push the opponent into negative points as well when the Formula records a dominant result.  It is hard to push an opponent all the way to -2000 on the negative side as the numbers taper off as they approach the limit.  So the scale is roughly from -2000 to +2000.  Fortunately, the Football ERA now translates the Raw Numerical Results seen below to more readable results in the form of Football Scores which you will see published above.

The Formula seeks to give us a different insight and angle into what we stereotypically assume happened on any given Sunday as it factors out turnovers and big plays for the most part in favor of what was done on the line of scrimmage to move the chains and drive the ball methodically down the field.  An interesting result in the New England victory gives us insight with not only how the Bengals scrapped their way back in "garbage time", but how the Patriots actually blew open the game on a big special teams return and with a pick six to the house.  The Formula essentially treated these events as turnovers and factored them out of the offensive and defensive outputs.
