Report: Bills to put Kevin Kolb on IR

If Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb hadn’t suffered a concussion during the preseason, the Bills possibly would have cut him, avoiding a base salary of $1.65 million and a roster bonus of $250,000.  They’ll now avoid the roster bonus, but not the base salary.
According to Joe Buscaglia of 550 WGR, the Bills will place Kolb on injured reserve.  Technically, he would be waived from IR or released with an injury settlement, reducing the team’s total financial obligation even more.  Either way, he won’t play for the Bills in 2013.
The Bills, per Buscaglia, also will place receiver Brad Smith and fullback Drew Smith on injured reserve.
For Kolb, it could be the end of the line.  A second-round pick in 2007, he bounced from Philly to Arizona and then to Buffalo, with a fairly routine hit putting him out of action indefinitely.
