Texans LB Mario Williams May Have Torn Pectoral Muscle
Houston Texans linebacker Mario Williams may have a torn pectoral muscle, Sports Illustrated's Peter King reported on NBC's Football Night In America.
Williams left Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Oakland Raiders after sacking quarterback Jason Campbell in the first quarter. Williams did not return and is scheduled to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
Selected with the first overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, Williams has recorded 53 quarterback sacks in 82 games over the last five-plus seasons, including five sacks in five games in 2011. The 6-foot-7, 290-pound Williams is adjusting well to a position change, moving from a 4-3 defensive end to outside linebacker in first-year defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' system.
Williams finished 2010 on injured reserve after undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia. Earning $13.8 million in base salary this season, Williams is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
