Chiefs Agree To Five-Year Deal With LB Tamba Hali
The Kansas City Chiefs have reached a five-year contract with franchised linebacker Tamba Hali, Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star reports.
Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports the deal is worth $60 million over five years, with $35 million in guarantees.
The 20th overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, Hali has 283 tackles, 41.5 quarterback sacks, and one interception in 79 games.
A defensive end at Penn State, and in his first three seasons in the NFL, Hali was moved to outside linebacker in 2009. Since the position switch, Hali has 104 tackles and 23 quarterback sacks in 32 games, earning Pro Bowl honors following his 14.5 quarterback season in 2010.
Hali earned $12 million over the previous five seasons under his rookie contract, and his franchise tag would have paid over $10 million in guaranteed base salary in 2011.
