Colts May Look For Manning's Successor
This off-season, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning turned 35, became a father of twins, and is expected to sign the richest contract in NFL history.
Manning may also find out who will eventually replace him under center, Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star reports.
"Quarterback's an issue, probably not a front-burner issue, but an issue nonetheless because while Peyton's not at the end of his career, it's approaching faster than it has in the past," Colts vice chairman Bill Polian said. "I wouldn't rule that out in the right situation."
The Colts have the 22nd pick of the 2011 NFL Draft, but if they are planning on signing Manning to a lucrative, multi-year contract extension, that financial commitment and Manning's remarkable durability make it unlikely that the Colts will use a high draft pick on a quarterback this season.
Indianapolis has taken closer looks at quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick (Nevada) and Andy Dalton (TCU), who are projected to go anywhere from late in the first round to some point on April 29, the second of a three-day draft.
