John Harbaugh Says Ed Reed Has 4-5 More Years of Football Left In Him
Less than a year after contemplating retirement, Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed thinks he has another four or five years of football left in him.
"I’ve talked to Ed a number of times this off-season," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said according to Jamison Hensley of The Baltimore Sun. “He feels he can play four or five more years."
Reed, who turns 33 in September, has a nerve impingement in his neck and underwent hip surgery last off-season, two injuries that have limited Reed to 22 regular season games over the last two seasons.
Despite spending the first six weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list, Reed intercepted an NFL-high 8 passes and was named to his seventh Pro Bowl in 2010.
In his nine-year career, Reed has 495 tackles, 5 quarterback sacks, and 54 interceptions. The 2002 first round pick out of the University of Miami has 12 touchdowns in his career, including six off interceptions.
Signed through 2012, Reed is scheduled to earn base salaries of $6.5 million in 2011 and $7.2 million in 2012.
