Browns HC Pat Shurnur Confident Systems Can Be Installed Quickly

Head coaches and coordinators hired this off-season will be negatively affected by the NFL lockout, which could wipe out the three-plus weeks of OTAs and mini-camps that have been used to install new systems.

Teams hiring new head coaches were afforded two additional voluntary mini-camps.

Cleveland Browns first-year head coach Pat Shurmur is one of those coaches who would have received up to six additional practices to install his program, but is now left to wait for the labor situation to be resolved.

"I guess I'm looking at it more as the glass as half-full than empty," Shurmur said according to Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. "I feel as though the systems we're teaching are proven. I've seen them be taught in a short amount of time. I'm not anxious about it."

In addition to Shurmur being handcuffed at the start of his first head coaching tenure, second-year quarterback Colt McCoy, who surprised everyone with his performance as a rookie, is behind the eight-ball when it comes to learning the intricacies of Shurmur's west coast system.

"You can visualize yourself doing it and I think he (McCoy) can," Shurmur said. "When he gets more and more schooled in our approach, I think it'll become more familiar and hopefully he'll be happier and happier about it."
