Bears Re-Work Julius Peppers' Deal

The Chicago Bears have renegotiated Pro Bowl defensive end Julius Peppers' six-year, $84 million contract, Michael C. Wright of ESPNChicago.com reports.

According to Wright, the Bears converted Peppers' $10.5 million roster bonus from 2011 into a signing bonus, freeing up $8 million in room under the salary cap, which is expected to return in a new collective bargaining agreement.

Peppers' cap number has gone from $12.783 million to $4.383 million, with his 2012-15 cap numbers increasing by $2.1 million each year.

Peppers had 54 tackles and his 8 quarterback sacks were tied with Israel Idonije for the team lead in his first season with the Bears.
