HOU RB Foster Solidifies #1 Role With Ben Tate Injury

From FootballGuys:

Tough news for Houston RB Ben Tate. He injured his ankle last night and John McClain from the Houston Chronicle believes it could be a season ending broken ankle. Coach Gary Kubiak will likely have official word at his press conference today.

Clipped from John McClain's Twitter feed: "I think RB Ben Tate, the second-round pick from Auburn, is done for the year because of a broken ankle. We'll find out Sunday."

[[[[[[[[[[ Football Guys:
If you've been following our projections, http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2010/currentproj-htx.php you know we've had RB Arian Foster slated for the bulk of the RB work in Houston with 165 carries. But up till yesterday, we had Tate projected for 80 carries. And Steve Slaton for 115 (although if he fumbles into the endzone again next week, he may looking for a UFL job...)

The net effect here if Tate is out is that Arian Foster should see more work. Foster has clearly been the best back in camp and we've liked his chances in Houston well before this injury.

Here's the RB blurb from our Bob Henry for Houston from this week's Training Camp Update available to our Footballguys Insiders. "RB: The Texans have their work cut out with five healthy running backs looking for reps. In the first week, all of the backs have looked good, especially the 229-pound Arian Foster. Take it from Maurice Jones-Drew, who selected Foster as his fantasy sleeper for 2010. "I really like Arian Foster," said MJD. "I think he’s a good running back, especially in their system, the Denver system. And I watched him in college too. It’s his style -- in that zone system, a bigger back who can get a cut and get his shoulders square. He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with. I really like him and I’ve got some sources, too." Foster has looked good, pounding his way to the secondary; juking CB Antwaun Molden on one nice run. Ben Tate is clearly the third-string back and has a long way to go. Foster has a sizable lead as the starter, and Kubiak conceded that Tate has got a lot of ability, but he’s behind after missing much of the offseason. The team placed FB Justin Griffith on injured reserve with a spinal cord concussion and re-signed FB Jack Corcoran. "

So while we thought Foster was clearly already the guy, an injury to Tate would further solidify Foster. Just something to consider as you head into drafts.
