Jim Caldwell: Stafford is sore, “we’ll see” if he plays this week

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford took a pounding from the Vikings on Sunday, which led him to get X-rays on his chest and ribs after the game.
On Monday, coach Jim Caldwell offered a limited update on the quarterback’s condition.
“He’s sore,” Caldwell said, via Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News. “It was a tough day for him.”
Caldwell didn’t delve into the details of what the X-rays found, but there is enough for Caldwell to have doubt about his quarterback’s status for Week Three. Caldwell said “we’ll see” when asked if Stafford will start against the Broncos next Sunday night and that the final determination would be made by doctors, which suggests that there’s some compelling reason beyond soreness for the Lions to think Stafford might not be able to play.
Given the pass protection through the first two weeks and what we’ve seen from the Broncos pass rush, there are compelling reasons for the Lions to wonder if Stafford will make it through the next game if he is given the green light to start.
