Andy Reid: Charles has high ankle sprain, but not “a real severe one”

The Chiefs saw running back Jamaal Charles go down with an ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos and it sounds like he’ll be questionable, at best, to return to the lineup in Miami next weekend.
Coach Andy Reid said at Monday’s press conference that Charles, who was scheduled for an MRI, suffered a high ankle sprain. Such injuries typically carry a multi-week recovery time, but Reid said that he didn’t think this was a particularly serious version.
“It doesn’t look to be a real severe one, but it does have the component of a high ankle sprain,” Reid said, via the team.
Even a mild high ankle sprain is going to make it difficult for a running back to play a week after suffering it, so the Chiefs are likely going to have to rely on Knile Davis in the immediate future.
Reid described safety Eric Berry’s injury as just a sprained ankle, so his prognosis for making a quick return to the lineup may be better. It’s still a lot of injuries to essential players for an 0-2 team to deal with all at once.
