Report: Sanchez unlikely to play Week One
Publicly, the Jets and quarterback Mark Sanchez continue to say nothing about whether his shoulder injury will cause him to miss the regular-season opener. Privately, it’s looking more and more obvious that Sanchez won’t be able to play.
During Thursday night’s edition of Pro Football Talk (5:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN), Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported that Sanchez likely will miss the Week One game against the Buccaneers.
If Sanchez doesn’t play, it means he can’t throw any interceptions to former teammate Darrelle Revis, who’ll now have to settle for giving rookie Geno Smith a baptism by blast furnace.
Look for the Jets to continue to stay quiet for as long as possible about Sanchez, if for no reason other than to keep the Buccaneers guessing about whether they’ll face Sanchez or Smith.
Even if they’re not guessing.
