Vikings To Release QB Donovan McNabb

The Minnesota Vikings will place quarterback Donovan McNabb on waivers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.  According to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network, McNabb requested the release.

Acquired from the Washington Redskins in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and a conditional sixth-round pick in 2013, McNabb struggled in his first season with the Vikings. McNabb had restructured his contract with the Vikings and is earning a $5.05 million base salary, which has $1.485 million remaining over the final five weeks.

Prior to his mid-October benching in favor of 2012 first-round pick Christian Ponder, McNabb had completed 60.3 percent of his 156 pass attempts for 1,026 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, but was replaced in the third quarter of a 39-10 loss to the Chicago Bears that dropped the Vikings to 1-5 on the season.

The second overall pick of the 1999 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles has passed for 37,276 yards with 234 touchdowns and 117 interceptions and been named to six Pro Bowls during his career.
