Vikings Will Name Christian Ponder The Starting Quarterback

Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier has informed quarterbacks Donovan McNabb and Christian Ponder that Ponder will be taking over the starting quarterback duties, Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network reports.

Ponder, the Vikings' first-round pick in 2011, replaced McNabb in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 39-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. Ponder completed 9-of-17 pass attempts for 99 yards in his NFL debut.

During Monday's press conference, Frazier said that the team would discuss the quarterback position internally before disclosing their decision on Wednesday, when the team begins on-field preparations for this Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Acquired from the Washington Redskins and signed to a one-year contract worth $5 million dollars, McNabb has completed 60.3 percent of his 156 pass attempts for 1,026 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions as the Vikings rank 31st in the NFL in passing offense during their 1-5 start to the season.
