TRG: Week 2 Recap

What an amazing weekend! I've never seen so many dramatic non-covers before. Missed the Cowboys by 1 yard, the Packers let Newton chuck a 50 yard bomb down the field with less than a minute remaining, and the Browns/Colts combined for 20 points in the 4th quarter, after only putting up 26 through the first 3 quarters. San Diego played the worst out of the lot, shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly. Still, two of the big favorites came through, as the Steelers shutout the Seahawks and the Jets held the Jags to only 3 points. Seems like betting against the most inept offense is the safe thing to do, these days...
Cam Newton is the real deal.
Anyway, here's the recap:

LOSSES

Green Bay -10 over Carolina: This game was eerily reminiscent of a few Packer games from early last year, I thought. Despite what looked to be a juicy matchup for Rodgers & Co, the offense struggled early against the Panthers defense. The Packer defense was leaving receivers wide open and Cam Newton is good enough to take advantage. Carolina easily could have had 21 points before the second half. In the end, it was almost a lucky cover after the long Nelson TD reception, but the Packers D seemed lackadaisical on the final drive, allowing Carolina to score and cover. Tough break.

San Diego +7 over New England: No mystery here, San Diego turned the ball over and the Patriots didn't. Not going to cover many games when you're -4 on the TO differential. Every time San Diego had some momentum, they gave the ball away. Brady played another fantastic game as well and is truly looking like the best QB in football right now.

Cleveland/Indy Under 37.5: This one was on pace for 36 points for the majority of the game, but a Josh Cribbs punt return and Indianapolis fumble gave the Browns 10 easy points. The Colts added a garbage TD inside 2 minutes to go to throw a little salt in the wound. I actually haven't gone through and tabulated the O/Us for the first two weeks, but it sure seems like there have been a ton of overs so far.

WINS/PUSH

WR Jesse Holley won't be forgotten by bettors anytime soon.
Dallas -3 over SF (push): I saw someone on Twitter refer to this game as one of the greatest non-covers in football history. I'd have to agree. Dallas should have had 6 in OT, but WR Jesse Holley decided he needed to celebrate around the 5 yard line and got taken down at the 1. Brutal. I have to give the Niners some credit though, they played the Cowboys tough. They might be a little better than I thought.

Pittsburgh -14 over Seattle: I nailed this one. Seattle's offense is a disaster. They were never even close to covering. Arizona's defense is bad enough that Seattle may score this week, so I may not bet against them, for once.

NY Jets -9.5 over Jacksonville: Again, this one went as predicted. Luke McCown even got benched this week. The Jaguars don't have much of a passing game and the secondary is pretty awful. The Jets didn't have much success running the ball, and with the loss of C Nick Mangold, I'm a bit concerned about that offense. Raiders +3.5 may actually be a good upset pick this week.
