Shortly after the news came out that the Ravens and Haloti Ngata were close to agreeing to a long-term contract extension, that deal got done.
Ngata and the Ravens have finalized a five-year extension, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Albert Breer both reported this afternoon, about an hour before the 4 p.m. Eastern time deadline for franchise players to sign long-term extensions.
For the 27-year-old Ngata, this deal means he could easily end up playing his entire career in Baltimore, where he was drafted in 2006. Ngata has been a starter since Week One of his rookie year and has missed only two games in his NFL career. Ngata is a two-time Pro Bowler and widely regarded as one of the best defensive linemen in the league.
The other two players who are playing this season on their one-year franchise tenders, Miami’s Paul Soliai and San Diego’s Vincent Jackson, will not get long-term deals done today.
