Mike Klis of the Denver Post says the Broncos had wanted to wait on Warren to possibly recover from torn triceps. However, they instead promoted second-year running back Jeremiah Johnson from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Johnson's activation comes with Knowshon Moreno hobbled with a hamstring injury.
The Broncos face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
