Tony Romo takes criticism, says he’s jealous of Rodgers, Roethlisberger
Heading into another Super Bowl as a spectator rather than a participant, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo says any criticism of him for failing to get to the big game is fair.
“I think it’s all warranted,” Romo said on ESPN Radio, per the Dallas Morning News. “I think it’s all about winning at this position. Yeah the stats and all that are fun for people to talk about, but it’s really not about that. It’s about winning. It’s about getting better and playing at your best when it counts. I think we all understand that. I’m no different. . . . I know that you have to win, you have to win the Super Bowl and you have to win big games. And that’s just what matters to people that are watching. And I’m the same way when I watch a different sport.”
Asked if he’s jealous of any other NFL quarterbacks, Romo said he isn’t jealous of their talents, but he is jealous that Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger will be playing in the Super Bowl while he’s watching.
“I’m jealous that they’re playing in this game,” Romo said. “And I think that’s what your goal is as a quarterback. And as a competitor, you always want to be out there.”
Romo says he’s completely healthy and ready to start the 2011 offseason program, whenever that should begin. And he’s hoping that a year from now in Indianapolis, he’s not talking about the other quarterbacks playing in the Super Bowl.
