Report: Dolphins willing to make Harbaugh highest-paid coach
The only way for a coach to create a bidding war for his services is to have multiple teams involved in the process.
It appears Jim Harbaugh is now in that position. After meeting today with officials from the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh will reportedly be courted by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, who has flown to the West Coast for a sitdown, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Ross brought with him general manager Jeff Ireland, among others, and the Dolphins are reportedly ready to replace coach Tony Sparano with Harbaugh and make him the highest-paid coach in the NFL, meaning he’d make more than $7 million annually. Per the report, the Dolphins would be required to interview a minority candidate before they would be able to officially hire Harbaugh, who met for five hours with the 49ers.
If the Dolphins are indeed willing to offer Harbaugh that kind of money, things could get very interesting very quickly. Stay tuned.
