Packers sign LB Desmond Bishop to 4-year extension

The Green Bay Packers have locked up one of their linebackers to a longterm deal, signing Desmond Bishop to a $19 million, four-year extension today.
The deal, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, locks up a talented inside linebacker and is the second big extension done by the club this season following the $33 million extension for cornerback Tramon Williams.
What’s interesting, according to Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee, is that the Packers signed fellow linebacker Brandon Chillar to a $22 million, four-year extension last year. Next year, former first-round draft pick A.J. Hawk is due a $10 million base salary and Nick Barnett has a $5.5 million base salary. The Packers might not want to pay everyone.
Some are viewing the Bishop contract as a good deal for the club, but the player gets money guaranteed now when most around the league are finding fresh paper hard to come by.
