He said that there are many levels of severity with ligament injuries, and he declined to make comparisons to Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, who sat out the second half of the NFC championship game with a similar injury.

In other notes:

Payton also confirmed that running back Pierre Thomas had an extensive scope on his ankle and his rehabilitation should last into the offseason.

Wide receiver Marques Colston is expected to have scopes performed on his knee and wrist, which could make him miss time during organized team activities.

Chris Ivory's post-operation report was positive. Payton said he needed one screw inserted into his ankle.

Offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb is expected to have a minor cleanup surgery. Linebacker Jonathan Vilma and defensive end Anthony Hargrove also could undergo similar procedures.

Saints secondary coach Dennis Allen, who is in attendance at the Senior Bowl, has concluded interviews with the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos. He could find out as early as this evening whether he will be hired by either organization.
