Falcons OC Mularkey on interview lists of Broncos, Browns

The Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns have asked the Atlanta Falcons for permission to interview offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for their vacant head coaching positions.

Mularkey, who has prior coaching experience with the Buffalo Bills, will interview with the Broncos on Friday. Denver fired coach Josh McDaniels on Dec. 6 and replaced him on an interim basis with Eric Studesville.
Under Mularkey's tutelage, Matt Ryan emerged as a Pro Bowl quarterback and the Falcons offense finished fifth in the league in scoring (414 points).
Mularkey has ties to Broncos executive Brian Xanders from their time together in Atlanta.
Mularkey was 14-18 as the Bills coach in 2004-05, including a 9-7 record in 2004. He has been an NFL assistant since 1994.
The Broncos have said they also will interview Studesville for the job. Studesville went 1-3 after replacing McDaniels.
The Browns are in the market for a coach after firing Eric Mangini on Monday following back-to-back 5-11 seasons. TheCleveland Plain Dealer reports the team will also interview St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur on Thursday.
