Bud Adams convenes a meeting to determine Jeff Fisher’s fate
The fate of the longest-tenured coach in the NFL may be decided at a meeting on Monday.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports is reporting that Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams has convened a meeting with senior Titans officials in Houston tomorrow to decide Fisher’s future.
It’s easy to see why Fisher might be out of a job this week: The Titans had a disappointing 6-10 season, and they’ve made the playoffs just twice in the last seven seasons.
On the other hand, Fisher is the only coach the Titans have ever had (he took over when the franchise was still in Houston and called the Oilers), and Adams seems comfortable with Fisher. Adams might not be inclined to go outside his comfort zone to find a new quarterback.
The wild card in all this is Fisher’s relationship with Vince Young. It’s clear that Adams views Young as a franchise quarterback, and it’s equally clear that Fisher views Young as more trouble than he’s worth. Adams said this season that he was going to make Fisher and Young find a way to work together, but if that simply can’t be done, Adams may be inclined to keep Young and lose Fisher.
One way or another, we could know whether Fisher is the Titans’ coach in 2011 by the end of the day on Monday.
