Cassel doesn’t travel with the Chiefs

Brodie Croyle will get his chance to knock out the Chargers.

The Chiefs announced that starting quarterback Matt Cassel has officially been ruled out for the game Sunday, so Croyle will get the start.  Cassel remained in Kansas City Saturday after having an appendectomy earlier in the week.  His status for next week’s game against the Rams is uncertain.

The move was widely expected after Cassel’s surgery; he was originally listed as doubtful on the injury report.  Croyle last started in the season opener against the Ravens last year, completing 16-of-24 passes for 177 yards and two scores despite a brief second quarter benching from Todd Haley.

It’s a shame the Chiefs won’t have their starter for the biggest game the franchise has had in years, but we suspect it will still be a close game.  Croyle is talented, plus it doesn’t take that much talent to hand off to Jamaal Charles.
