Aaron Rodgers cleared to return for Packers
The Green Bay Packers must win Sunday against the New York Giants if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.
They got some good news for that NFC battle at Lambeau Field on Tuesday as quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been cleared to return from a concussion, according to Jason Wilde of ESPNMilwaukee.com.
“I’m baaaaaaacckkkk,” Rodgers sent Wilde in a text message.
Rodgers suffered a concussion Dec. 12 at Detroit when his head hit the Ford Field turf. Matt Flynn replaced him and the stunning 7-3 loss dealt the Packers a serious blow to their playoff hopes. Coach Mike McCarthy hoped to go up until game time this past Sunday at New England to make a decision on Rodgers, but he was ruled out on Saturday as the team announced he could not pass medical clearance.
So, some time since Saturday he has not only been diagnosed asymptomatic, he’s been cleared by both a team physician and an independent neurologist. The Packers (8-6) can secure a playoff berth if they win their final two games. They host the NFC North division champion Chicago Bears on Jan. 2. The Giants win a wild-card berth with a win this Sunday.
