Optimism for Adrian Peterson, a day after ankle injury

A sprained ankle knocked Vikings running back Adrian Peterson out of Sunday’s win over the Redskins, opening the door for rookie Toby Gerhart to see the first extended action of his career.  Still, we’re told that Peterson is expected to be available when the Vikings hosting the Bills on Sunday.
That said, Peterson is still slated for an MRI on Monday.  He said after the game that the pain was “unbearable“.
Stay tuned for more.  Though Gerhart did fairly well in his debut, gaining 76 yards on 22 carries and scoring his first NFL touchdown, the Vikings need Peterson if they hope to piece together their first two-game winning streak of the 2010 season.
