The Jacksonville Jaguars could have two quarterbacks off the street suiting up for them at Kansas City on Sunday.
With starter David Garrard and backup Trent Edwards both injured, the Jaguars re-signed veteran Todd Bouman on Tuesday. To make room on the roster, the team released safety Gerald Alexander.
Jacksonville also is planning to take a look at free agent quarterback Patrick Ramsey, released by the New Orleans Saints in final roster cuts.
Garrard left Monday night's 30-3 loss to Tennessee with a concussion in the second quarter, and Edwards injured his right thumb while playing the rest of the game.
Coach Jack Del Rio said on his weekly radio show Tuesday night that "there's a strong possibility we won't have either guy" during practice Wednesday.
Del Rio added that there was a chance Garrard and Edwards could be back against the Chiefs. But with Garrard needing to pass the NFL's strict, post-concussion guidelines and Edwards hurting and still learning the playbook after signing three weeks ago, the Jaguars (3-3) are preparing for the worst.
That would be the 38-year-old Bouman starting and Ramsey possibly serving as his backup. Jacksonville signed Bouman last month following a season-ending knee injury to backup Luke McCown. Bouman spent two weeks on the active roster before getting released Oct. 5.
Bouman has played in 42 games with six starts for Minnesota and New Orleans. He spent four weeks on Jacksonville's roster in 2007 and spent time with the club during training camp in 2008 and 2009.
Bouman signed with Baltimore before the 2008 opener and spent the entire season with the Ravens. He was the team's No. 3 quarterback for the final 10 weeks, including the postseason.
Garrard has been inconsistent all season. He threw four interceptions at San Diego and got benched. He got sacked seven times against Philadelphia, prompting the Jaguars to claim Edwards off waivers from Buffalo.
Garrard bounced back in wins against Indianapolis and Buffalo, but struggled again against the Titans.
Garrard was 7 of 12 passing for 49 yards, with an interception. He also was plagued by two dropped passes.
Edwards was 14 of 24 for 140 yards, with two sacks and two interceptions.
