Saints RB Thomas out for Sunday

Saints RB Pierre Thomas will miss Sunday's game against the Cardinals, head coach Sean Payton told reporters on Friday.

This is the second consecutive game Thomas will miss after injuring his left ankle in Week Three. He sat out last weekend's 16-14 win over the Panthers.

Payton said it is not a high ankle sprain but Thomas is "going to have a good shot to play next week."

Thomas did not practice this week. Saints DE Will Smith (groin) and S Roman Harper (hamstring) are questionable. CB Tracy Porter (knee) is out 3-4 weeks. TE Jeremy Shockey (knee) is probable.

RBs Ladell Betts and Chris Ivory combined for 114 yards on 25 carries in last Sunday's win. At times, though, the Saints' offense looked out of sync without Thomas in the game. He is also a weapon as a receiver out of the backfield. Betts had four receptions for 23 yards last week.

Fantasy Spin

Betts and Ivory shared carries last week with Ivory having more rushing yards, but Betts had more receiving yards. Against the Cardinals' defense, the Saints will go to the air a lot, and unless you are in a bind neither Betts nor Ivory is worth a start except as a third RB.
