RG3 says he won’t compromise his career to play in season opener

Robert Griffin III sent out a tweet Tuesday that featured a link to a new commercial he filmed for Adidas.
The commercial features exploding scoreboards and football fields — no exploding knees, though — before ending with the tagline “All In for Week 1.” Griffin’s tweet features the same phrase, which naturally garnered some interest from those following his rehab from the knee injury suffered in the team’s playoff loss to the Seahawks.
Some of that interest was from people concerned that Griffin might be pushing too hard to get back for the season opener, which led Griffin back to Twitter a short time later to clarify his position.
“Feel like I need to say this..Although my goal is to start Week 1, that doesn’t mean I will compromise my career to do so,” Griffin wrote.
It’s the wisest course of action, obviously, and one that should put to rest any immediate fears that Griffin’s being less than judicious with his decision making in regard to his rehab. There’s a long way to go before we’ll have any idea about Griffin’s availability for Week One, Week Two or anything else, which probably means that everyone should keep in mind that advertising slogans aren’t always rooted in reality.

Griffin could be cleared to play on Thursday

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III declared after fully participating in practice on Wednesday that he’s ready to play.
The doctors have yet to agree.
Coach Mike Shanahan explained after practice that the doctors may indeed sign off on Griffin playing, as soon as Thursday.
“What the doctors will do is evaluate him tomorrow,” Shanahan told reporters.  “Hopefully there is no setback, no swelling with the knee.  He will be evaluated through the week.  When the doctors tell me the ligament is ready to go, I will announce when he is ready to go. . . . I think they will be able to look at him tomorrow and watch him practice tomorrow. Hopefully there is no swelling but you just don’t know.  So, they will look at it tomorrow and hopefully they will tell us it is full-go.”
Griffin practiced only on a limited basis last week, in the days after suffering a Grade 1 LCL sprain.  Kirk Cousins started in place of Griffin, leading the Redskins to a 38-21 win over the Browns.
The Redskins play the Eagles on Sunday in what likely will be coach Andy Reid’s final home game.  Riding a five-game winning streak, the Redskins are closing in on their first playoff berth in five years.
