On Tebow, “virtual certainty” apparently has a new meaning

It is widely believed that Jaguars owner Shahid Khan loves him some Tim Tebow.
It should not be believed by anyone that new G.M. Dave Caldwell shares that view.
“I can’t imagine a scenario where he’d be a Jacksonville Jaguar,” Caldwell said of Tebow at an introductory press conference, via multiple reports.
If Khan truly wanted Tebow, Khan could have imposed that condition on anyone hired as G.M. and head coach.  Of course, Khan in turn may have had an even harder time hiring a G.M. and a coach than Jets owner Woody Johnson is having hiring a G.M. with Rex Ryan in place as the head coach.
For Tebow, it means there’s one less landing spot for him in 2013.  Not including Canada.

Last month, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen breathlessly reported it’s a “virtual certainty” that Tim Tebow will be a Jaguar in 2013.
I don’t think that term means what he thinks it means.  (Unless he thinks it means “95 percent” certain.)
Either way, it sure sounds like a lot less than a virtual certainty that Tebow will be a member of the Jaguars in 2013.  Which means that the next time someone at ESPN feels compelled to report that anything months away from happening is a “virtual certainty,” it’s a virtual certainty that they won’t.
