The Redskins released a new depth chart on Monday and it featured Evan Royster as the starting tailback ahead of Roy Helu and rookie Alfred Morris.
Royster seems to have a pretty good grasp on Mike Shanahan’s reputation when it comes to following things like depth charts when it comes to divvying up playing time for running backs. Royster said Monday that he doesn’t think his spot on the depth chart has much bearing on how things will wind up playing out against the Saints.
“I think they’re going to keep us pretty much in the dark until probably the day before the game,” Royster said, via Mike Jones of the Washington Post.
It’s a wise move not to get too consumed with whether or not you’re in the starting lineup because history says all three backs are going to get their opportunities in Shanahan’s offense. Based on the way the Saints run defense looks, they should find some success right out of the gate as well.
The other big news in the new depth chart is that Josh Morgan has been elevated to starter status in place of Leonard Hankerson. The two players rotated frequently during preseason, which suggests that the starter status doesn’t mean much more there than it does at running back.
