Report: Jahvid Best Advised To Consider Sitting Out Remainder Of Season
In the wake of his second concussion of the 2011 season, people close to Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best are asking him to consider sitting out the remainder of the year, Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com reports.
Following the first 100-yard game of his career, the 2010 first-round pick out of California was limited to just 37 yards on 12 carries against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. Eight of Best's dozen carries were for one yard or less.
Best missed the final four games of his college career with a concussion and he missed time in training camp with a concussion, as well.
Selected with the 30th overall pick of the 2010 draft, Best signed a five-year contract worth $9.8 million, with $7.095 million guaranteed. As part of that deal, Best received a $3.09 million option bonus, a $1.1 million roster bonus and is earning a $450,000 base salary this season.
In six games in 2011, Best leads the Lions with 84 carries for 390 yards and two touchdowns, adding 27 receptions for 287 yards and a touchdown as a receiver out of the backfield. Best has not practiced this week and is not expected to play against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
The Lions traded backup running back Jerome Harrison to the Philadelphia Eagles for running back Ronnie Brown on Tuesday, but Harrison failed his physical in Philadelphia and is back with the team. Detroit also signed running back James Davis to the practice squad this week, but he was placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.
Detroit lost 2011 second-round running back Mikel Leshoure to a torn Achilles' tendon during training camp.
