Patriots Agree To Terms DE Andre Carter

Free agent defensive end Andre Carter announced on Twitter that he will be joining the New England Patriots.

A 2001 first-round pick out of Cal by the San Francisco 49ers, Carter has spent the last five seasons with the Washington Redskins. During his 149-game career, the 6-foot-4, 257-pound Carter has 66 quarterback sacks.

Carter becomes the second veteran defensive lineman to join the Patriots this weekend, joining former New York Jet Shaun Ellis, who agreed to terms earlier on Sunday.

Despite Brandon Meriweather going to back-to-back Pro Bowls, New England is also looking to upgrade the back-end of the secondary, as well.

Free agent safety Dashon Goldson visited with the New England Patriots on Sunday, the Boston Globe confirmed.

This morning, Goldson, who has spent the last four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, tweeted that he was undergoing a physical. The former fourth-round pick out of the University of Washington has started 32 games over the last two seasons, totaling 174 tackles, three quarterback sacks, and five interceptions.

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports the Patriots have released backup safety Brandon McGowan.
