49ers Agree To Terms With QB Alex Smith

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms with quarterback Alex Smith, keeping their former first-round pick in the Bay Area for at least one more season, ESPN reports.

Smith's deal is worth around $5 million for the 2011 season.

Chosen with the first overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, Smith has completed 57.1% of his 1,514 pass attempts for 9,399 yards with 51 touchdowns and 53 interceptions over the last six seasons, compiling a passer rating of 72.1.

Smith took an active role in organizing the 49ers' player-run workouts at San Jose State University, and is expected is to compete with 2011 second-round pick Colin Kaepernick for the team starting job.
