Rams Offensive Linemen Organize Workouts

Members of the St. Louis Rams offensive line have been working out together at a local training facility, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The workouts were organized by Adam Goldberg, the team's player representative who's scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this off-season, and are being conducted by Goldberg's personal trainer, Matt Pirtle of Emerge Fitness.

Thomas reports that three-fifths of the Rams' starting offensive line--center Jason Brown and offensive tackles Rodger Saffold and Jason Smith--are participating in the workouts, which have also been attended by Hank Fraley and Ryan McKee.

"We train on Tuesdays and Thursdays together as a group," Goldberg. "That way we get some camaraderie and cohesiveness that everybody who knows anything about football knows is important for our group. So we train together twice a week, and then most of us train there at other times during the day on a one-on-one basis with Matt."

Reports about quarterbacks organizing workouts with other skill-position players, and the hazards of 7-on-7 drills before the April 6 hearing in Minnesota, have been common during the lockout. It's refreshing to see a group of offensive linemen, particularly young building blocks like Saffold and Smith, recognizing the role off-season workouts play in team-building, and not letting the lockout interfere with that.
