Jets WR Santonio Holmes Wants Multi-Year Deal

New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes won't be happy playing under a one-year deal in 2011, Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports.

"I want a contract, flat out," Holmes said during an appearance at a memorabilia show in Somerset, New Jersey. "If I sign a contract, it will be for multiple years. It won't be for one year."

If the lockout is lifted, and a new collective bargaining agreement isn't reached, players like Holmes, who has less than six accrued seasons, would be denied unrestricted free agency. Prior to the expiration of the CBA, the Jets placed a "First- and Third-Round" tender on Holmes, which under the expired CBA, would carry an estimated $3.542 million base salary in 2011.

"I played five years to wait for my sixth year to come up," Holmes said. "I don't want to play for a one-year deal. I wouldn't do it."

Acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers last off-season, Holmes served a four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy before catching 52 passes for 706 yards and six touchdowns in 12 regular season games.

Holmes, who turned 27 last month, added nine receptions for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns in the post-season.

Of the 216 restricted free agents last off-season, less than 30 had received contract extensions by mid-season.
