Steelers Hire Carnell Lake to Coach DBs

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced that they have hired former Pro Bowl safety Carnell Lake to coach their defensive backs.

Lake replaces Ray Horton, who left after Super Bowl XLV to become the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.

A second-round pick (34th overall) out of UCLA by the Steelers in 1989, Lake spent ten seasons in Pittsburgh, where he posted 21.5 quarterback sacks and all 16 of his career interceptions. Lake went to four Pro Bowl while with the Steelers, and was named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Year in 1997.

Lake finished his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars (1999-2000) and Baltimore Ravens (2001).

The 43-year old Lake, who spent the 2009 season as a defensive backs coach at UCLA, interviewed for the position last week.
