Saints Announce Coaching Changes

The New Orleans Saints officially announced that assistant secondary coach Tony Oden has been promoted to secondary coach.

Oden replaces Dennis Allen, who left to become the defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos. Oden's promotion was originally reported by Brian Allee-Walsh of NewOrleans.com on February 20.

"Tony has worked hard to help develop our defensive backs and has a strong understanding of our defensive philosophy," Saints head coach Sean Payton said "This promotion from within helps us maintain continuity on a defense that has continued to improve, especially in the secondary."

In addition to Oden's promotion, assistant special teams coach Mike Mallory is now the assistant secondary coach, with John Bonamego hired to fill Mallory's old spot.

Bonamego was the Saints' special teams coordinator during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. The veteran NFL assistant spent the previous three seasons coordinating the Miami Dolphins' special teams units.
