Brian Westbook Would Love to Return to Eagles

Veteran running back Brian Westbook tells Comcast SportsNet that he would love to return to the Philadelphia Eagles.

"Yeah, I talk to Coach (Andy) Reid every week or so," Westbrook said. "We always talk. I would love to be back in Philly, so we'll see how things go.

"I think I could help out. I think they have a very good group of young guys on the team, as far as every position. But I still think I could help this team win."

Chosen by the Eagles in the third-round (91st overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft out of Villanova, Westbrook rushed for 5,995 yards with 37 touchdowns and caught 426 passes for 3,790 yards and 29 touchdowns out of the backfield.

Westbrook ranks second on the Eagles' all-time rushing yardage list, and has the third-most receptions and touchdowns in team history.

Released by the Eagles in a cost-cutting move last March, Westbrook signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

After barely sniffing the field the first three months of the season, Westbrook replaced an injured Frank Gore to rush for 136 yards and a touchdown in a 27-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football.

Westbrook finished the season with 340 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing, with 16 receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Westbrook turns 32 in September and has a history of concussions. If he's healthy enough to get the Eagle's medical staff to clear him, though, Westbrook could compete with Jerome Harrison for a role backing up LeSean McCoy in the Eagles' backfield.
